Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Willy Kenei has pledged to transform the boda boda sector by attracting investments in motorcycle assembly and spare-parts distribution in Eldoret if elected governor in 2027.

Kenei made the remarks after engaging members of Kibagenge Boda Boda Sacco, where riders highlighted challenges affecting their daily operations, including poor drainage, insecurity, enforcement harassment, high maintenance costs and limited access to affordable financing.

He said boda boda riders remain a vital part of Eldoret’s economy through job creation, connecting businesses and providing affordable transport to thousands of residents.

Kenei said his administration would work towards creating a business environment where riders can operate safely while accessing affordable financing and other support services.

He also proposed attracting investors in motorcycle assembly and spare-parts distribution to Eldoret, saying the initiative would create employment opportunities for young people, support local businesses and help reduce the cost of purchasing and maintaining motorcycles.

The aspirant said his engagement with the riders reflects his approach to leadership, which he described as listening to residents and turning their concerns into practical solutions.

Kenei’s gubernatorial bid has also received growing backing from sections of the Uasin Gishu business community and residents of Eldoret City, with supporters pointing to his long involvement in championing the interests of traders.

As Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Uasin Gishu Chapter, Kenei has served in the position for the last seven years and has been vocal on issues affecting traders and businesses in the county.

His experience in the business sector has become a key component of his political campaign as he seeks to present himself as a candidate focused on investment, enterprise development, job creation and economic empowerment.

Kenei is among the politicians positioning themselves to succeed Governor Jonathan Bii in the 2027 Uasin Gishu gubernatorial race, with his campaign increasingly focusing on the concerns of traders, youth and small-scale entrepreneurs.

His latest engagement with boda boda riders comes as political activity continues to gain momentum in Uasin Gishu ahead of the 2027 General Election.
