Kenei Promises Talent Revolution as He Courts Uasin Gishu Youth Ahead of 2027

Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Willy Kenei has renewed his focus on youth empowerment, promising to establish County Talent Academies to identify, nurture and transform young people's abilities into sustainable careers and livelihoods.

Kenei made the pledge after receiving a hand-drawn portrait from Evans Kipchirchir, a talented young artist from Ainabtich in Kimumu Ward, Moiben Constituency.

Evans visited Kenei's office and presented him with the detailed portrait, a gesture the gubernatorial hopeful described as a powerful reminder of the untapped talent among young people in Uasin Gishu.

Kenei said his proposed talent academies would provide young people with opportunities to sharpen their skills, showcase their abilities and develop their talents from an early age.

He argued that many young people possess exceptional abilities but lack the support, platforms and opportunities required to turn those talents into meaningful sources of income.

The proposal forms part of Kenei's broader campaign as he seeks to unseat incumbent Governor Jonathan Bii in the 2027 gubernatorial contest.

Kenei formally entered the race in August, declaring that he has a clear vision and plan to take Uasin Gishu to the next level of development. His entry has added another prominent name to an increasingly competitive race that includes Bii, Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, businessman Zedekiah Buzeki and Competition Authority Director General David Rotuk. 

The gubernatorial aspirant brings a background in business and private-sector leadership. He has served as chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Uasin Gishu Chapter and has been involved in business development, investment and community initiatives. 

His community engagement also includes his role in the Save A Life Initiative, through which businesspeople and residents mobilised food and other assistance for drought-affected Kenyans. 

In recent weeks, Kenei has stepped up his grassroots engagements, including a meeting with more than 200 opinion leaders and residents in Kapseret, where he promoted what he described as accountable, inclusive and visionary leadership. 

The latest talent-focused message signals an attempt by Kenei to make youth empowerment, economic opportunity and talent development key pillars of his campaign as the battle for Uasin Gishu's top seat gathers momentum ahead of 2027.

“Together, we can build a Uasin Gishu where every young person has an opportunity to turn talent into a meaningful livelihood,” Kenei said.
