Nambale Aspirant Ken Okwara Dismisses Claims Uhuru Funded Linda Mwananchi Homa Bay Rally
Nambale parliamentary aspirant on the Linda Mwananchi party ticket, Ken Okwara, has dismissed claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta funded the movement’s recent rally in Homa Bay.
Okwara questioned the basis of allegations that Uhuru financed the rally with as much as KSh100 million, arguing that there would be little motivation for the former president to spend such a huge amount of money on a political event in a rural county.
He challenged those making the claims to provide evidence to support the allegations, saying Kenyans should not be treated as if they cannot distinguish between political mobilisation and claims lacking proof.
Okwara specifically criticised Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over the alleged claim, urging him to be more convincing when making accusations.
“Peter Kaluma, kindly take some classes in lying and you know where you can easily get a distinction. As a lawyer, learn to say convincing lies,” Okwara said.
The aspirant further likened the claims to a child denying having eaten sugar despite having evidence of it around his mouth.
Okwara said he had personally interacted with members of the Linda Mwananchi team and maintained that the movement’s rallies are supported through contributions from people of goodwill rather than massive financial backing from Uhuru.
“I have walked with Linda Mwananchi team and I can tell you that people of goodwill contribute small monies to fund the rallies,” he said.
He questioned why Uhuru would allegedly spend KSh100 million on a single political rally in Homa Bay, asking what benefit the former president would gain from such expenditure.
According to Okwara, the former president has increasingly become an “easy punching bag” for political actors seeking to explain the activities of emerging political movements.
He also challenged those with evidence linking Uhuru to the alleged funding to report the matter to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and pursue the issue through the appropriate legal channels rather than making accusations on social media.
“Go report to NCIC and prosecute your case there. Not on social media,” Okwara said.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the Linda Mwananchi movement seeking to expand its political presence across the country.
