Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the Talanta Sports City, Kenya's new 60,000-seater international stadium along Ngong Road in Nairobi, is nearing completion, describing the multi-billion-shilling facility as a landmark project that will transform the country's sporting landscape.
During an inspection tour of the construction site, Kindiki expressed confidence that the stadium is on course for completion, hailing the pace of the works and the commitment of the thousands of workers involved in delivering one of Kenya's most ambitious sports infrastructure projects.
"The magnificent 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road, Nairobi, is near ready. Awesome in size and beautiful to behold, this is the first international stadium to be built in this country since the completion of Kasarani Stadium in 1987," Kindiki said.
The Deputy President described the project as a historic milestone, noting that Kenya has waited decades for the construction of another international-standard stadium of similar scale.
According to Kindiki, the progress achieved at the site has been driven by close supervision and an intensive round-the-clock work schedule. He credited the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for overseeing the contractor and ensuring efficiency in project implementation.
"The efficiency in timely completion has been boosted by the supervision of the contractor by the Kenya Defence Forces personnel and the adoption of a daily 24-hour work schedule," he stated.
During the visit, Kindiki met construction workers at the site, shook hands with them, and commended their dedication, saying their efforts were helping shape Kenya's future through infrastructure development.
"I inspected the works, greeted the workers and praised them for their role in building the nation, literally, with their hands and labour," he said.
Beyond the Talanta Sports City project, the Deputy President revealed that the government is simultaneously constructing 31 other stadiums across the country, describing the initiative as the largest sports infrastructure development programme ever undertaken in Kenya.
He said the investments are intended to expand access to modern sporting facilities, nurture talent, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Kenya's position as a regional sporting powerhouse.
The Talanta Sports City is expected to play a central role in hosting major international sporting events and is one of the flagship projects supporting Kenya's preparations for future continental and global competitions.
