Kindiki Declares Opposition Race ‘Over’ as He Dares Rivals to Pick Flagbearer

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched a sharp attack on the opposition, dismissing its efforts to unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the next General Election.

Kindiki said it would make no difference whether opposition leaders settle on one of their own as a flagbearer, arguing that their lack of a clear policy agenda had already weakened their bid to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“It matters not that the policy-bankrupt opposition will agree to support one from among themselves. Even delaying the unveiling of their flagbearer to the last minute will not help. It is a fait accompli,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President’s remarks are likely to intensify the growing political contest between Kenya Kwanza and opposition leaders, who have been holding consultations aimed at forming a united front.

Kindiki maintained that the government’s development record, ongoing projects and policy direction would give President William Ruto and Kenya Kwanza a strong advantage, regardless of the opposition’s eventual choice of candidate.

His statement comes amid mounting pressure on opposition leaders to agree on a joint flagbearer, with several prominent figures positioning themselves for a possible presidential run.
