Respected Murang’a business leader and medic Dr. Moses Mwangi has welcomed Japan's commitment of KSh3 billion to support Kenya's local vaccine manufacturing programme, describing the move as a major milestone in strengthening the country's healthcare system and pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Mwangi said the investment will enhance Kenya's capacity to produce vaccines locally, reduce dependence on imports, improve access to life-saving medicines, and bolster the country's preparedness for future disease outbreaks.
He commended the collaboration between the Government of Kenya and Japan, noting that the funding will support research infrastructure, specialised skills development, and innovation through the State Department for Medical Services and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
According to Dr. Mwangi, strengthening local vaccine manufacturing will not only improve public health outcomes but also create employment opportunities, promote technology transfer, and position Kenya as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing
He urged stakeholders in the health sector to ensure the funds are utilised efficiently and transparently so that Kenya and the Eastern African region can benefit fully from this strategic partnership.
