Mzee Augustine Kisorio Installed as National Chairman of Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders

The Nandi community witnessed a landmark cultural event as Mzee Augustine Kisorio was officially installed as the National Chairman of the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders during a colorful ceremony held at Baraton University.
The installation brought together senior national and county leaders, cultural elders, professionals, religious leaders and members of the public in a celebration that underscored the importance of preserving the Nandi community's rich traditions, values and leadership structures.
Among the dignitaries who attended the event were Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Soy MP David Kiplagat, Kesses MP CPA Julius Ruto, Aldai MP Cornelius Serem, and Uasin Gishu KUPPET Secretary Elijah Maiyo, among other leaders.
The ceremony marked a new chapter for the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders, with Mzee Kisorio assuming the responsibility of guiding the council on matters of culture, unity, conflict resolution and the preservation of the community's heritage.
Speaking during the event, Governor Stephen Sang emphasized the historical significance of Nandi Hills, describing it as the spiritual and cultural heartland of the Nandi people.
"Nandi Hills remains the historic cradle of the Nandi people's leadership and cultural heritage, being the home of the Nandi Orkoiyot and the great leader Koitalel Arap Samoei. It continues to symbolize the values, traditions and identity that define our community," Sang said.
The governor noted that cultural institutions continue to play an important role in promoting unity, moral values and peaceful coexistence, urging younger generations to embrace and safeguard their heritage.
The installation ceremony featured traditional songs, cultural dances and blessings from elders, reflecting the deep respect accorded to the institution of the Kaburwo Council of Elders. Speakers described the council as an enduring pillar that has helped preserve customs, mediate disputes and offer guidance on matters affecting the community for generations.
Leaders who attended the ceremony also congratulated Mzee Kisorio on his elevation and pledged to work closely with the council in promoting cultural preservation and community development.
Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei congratulated the new chairman, saying he looked forward to continued collaboration between cultural institutions and government in promoting unity and national cohesion.
Senator Jackson Mandago described the installation as a proud moment for the Nandi community, saying strong cultural leadership complements modern governance by preserving values that have guided generations.
Soy MP David Kiplagat thanked the elders for safeguarding the community's traditions and wished Mzee Kisorio wisdom and good health as he begins his tenure.
Kesses MP CPA Julius Ruto commended the elders for conducting a peaceful and dignified installation, expressing confidence that the new leadership would strengthen cultural unity and mentorship among young people.
Aldai MP Cornelius Serem congratulated Mzee Kisorio and reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at protecting the Nandi community's heritage and identity.
Uasin Gishu KUPPET Secretary Elijah Maiyo thanked the organizers for bringing together leaders from different sectors, noting that culture remains an important foundation for education, discipline and national values.
The installation of Mzee Augustine Kisorio is expected to strengthen the role of the Nandi Kaburwo Council of Elders as it continues to champion cultural preservation, community unity and the transmission of traditional knowledge to future generations.
