Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into allegations that armed goons were involved during the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

Speaking on Sunday during an interdenominational prayer and thanksgiving service at Kwanza Girls High School in Trans Nzoia County, Murkomen said investigators had been directed to establish the identities of those involved, the offences allegedly committed, and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

He said the DCI had already opened an investigation file to determine who the suspected goons were, the crimes they committed, who may have been harmed, and the circumstances surrounding their presence during the mini-poll.

The Interior CS also addressed allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua concerning the alleged sexual abuse of women during the election period. Murkomen said anyone with credible information or evidence should report to the authorities and record statements to aid investigations, emphasizing that justice can only be achieved through proper legal processes.

At the same time, Murkomen cautioned politicians against making tribal, divisive and inflammatory remarks, saying such statements threaten national unity and security. He warned leaders against exploiting political competition in ways that could incite violence or deepen ethnic divisions.

He maintained that political contests should not come at the expense of peace and stability, noting that Kenya's democratic space must remain peaceful regardless of electoral outcomes.

Murkomen also defended the Kenya Kwanza administration's development agenda, expressing confidence that President William Ruto would secure re-election in the 2027 General Election based on the government's ongoing projects and programmes across the country.

He said the administration's record in infrastructure development, economic recovery and service delivery would ultimately convince Kenyans to renew President Ruto's mandate.

The Cabinet Secretary further announced a fresh security operation targeting organised criminal gangs operating in Kitale Town and surrounding areas. He warned criminals involved in robberies and violent attacks that security agencies would intensify operations without regard to political affiliations.

Murkomen said the operation would be the second phase of a broader crackdown aimed at restoring law and order in Kitale and creating a secure environment for businesses and residents. He added that similar security operations would soon be extended to other towns across the country as part of the government's strategy to combat organised crime.
