Edwin Sifuna Reacts to Ol Kalou By-Election Results, Congratulates DCP's Sammy Kamau on Victory
Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence following the Ol Kalou by-election, congratulating voters and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) after its candidate, Sammy Kamau, won the closely watched contest.
In a statement shared after the results were announced, Sifuna praised the people of Ol Kalou for what he described as their determination in the face of alleged electoral challenges.
"Hats off to the people of Ol Kalou. Everything was thrown at you; bribery, violence, intimidation, state power, but you stood firm," Sifuna said.
He also hailed DCP candidate Sammy Kamau and the party leadership for what he termed a decisive victory.
"Congratulations to Sammy Kamau and the entire DCP team for that resounding victory," he added.
Sifuna's comments come after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Sammy Kamau the winner of the Ol Kalou by-election, handing DCP a significant political victory in Nyandarua County.
The former ODM Secretary-General alleged that voters overcame bribery, violence, intimidation and the use of state machinery during the campaign period. However, these claims had not been independently verified at the time of publication, and no official response had been issued by the electoral or security authorities.
The Ol Kalou by-election attracted national political attention, with major political parties seeking to test their popularity ahead of the 2027 General Election. Kamau's victory is expected to strengthen DCP's growing influence and fuel debate over the country's shifting political landscape.
Political analysts are likely to closely examine the outcome as parties continue to reorganize and build alliances in preparation for the next general election.
