Dr. Esther Muchemi Calls for Integrity in Politics, Urges Kenyans to Reject Vote Buying

Samchi Group Chief Executive Officer  Dr. Esther Muchemi has urged Kenyans to reject vote buying and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process by exercising their democratic rights according to their conscience rather than material inducements.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Esau selling his birthright for a meal, Dr. Muchemi cautioned against exchanging the long-term value of the vote for short-term gains such as money, food or other handouts during political campaigns.

She expressed concern over what she described as the growing culture of transactional politics, arguing that accepting gifts from politicians, even with the intention of voting differently, compromises personal integrity and weakens democratic accountability.

According to Dr. Muchemi, the right to vote is a precious civic responsibility that should be exercised based on values, leadership qualities and the public interest rather than temporary incentives. She encouraged citizens to decline political handouts if they do not genuinely support a candidate's vision and leadership.

The business leader also emphasized the importance of accountability and personal reflection, urging those who may have accepted inducements in the past to make informed choices guided by conscience in future elections.

Through her remarks, Dr. Muchemi reinforced the message that strong democracies are built on integrity, principled leadership and an electorate that places long-term national progress above short-term personal gain.
