Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege Launches Verification Drive Ahead of Meeting With Housing CEO
Residents of Nairobi South Ward who applied for affordable housing units under the Boma Yangu programme, paid the required deposits, but have yet to receive communication regarding their allocation status have been urged to come forward and submit their details as efforts intensify to address growing concerns over delays in the process.
Nairobi South Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Waithera Chege has issued a public notice calling on all affected applicants to participate in an urgent verification and registration exercise aimed at compiling a comprehensive list of individuals whose cases remain unresolved.
The initiative comes amid increasing concerns from applicants who say they fulfilled all the requirements of the housing programme, including making the required deposits, but have not received official feedback on whether they have been allocated housing units or when they can expect further communication from the programme's management.
According to Hon. Chege, the exercise is intended to facilitate direct engagement with the leadership of the Boma Yangu housing programme and ensure that every pending case is documented and presented for review.
The MCA directed affected residents to submit their details through the designated contact number, 0708 743 885, to enable her office to verify records and coordinate the next steps.
Applicants are required to provide the following information:
• Full Name
• National Identification Number
• Contact Number
• Category of Unit Applied For (Bedsitter, One-Bedroom, or Two-Bedroom)
Hon. Chege emphasized that accurate and complete information will be critical in helping authorities identify applicants whose allocation status remains unclear and in ensuring that no eligible applicant is left out during the review process.
She explained that the collected data will be used to streamline communication between applicants and the management of the affordable housing programme while helping to address concerns that have persisted among residents waiting for feedback.
"The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that all affected applicants are accounted for and that their concerns are properly presented for action," the MCA stated.
In a significant development, Hon. Chege disclosed that the Chief Executive Officer of the Boma Yangu housing programme has expressed willingness to meet all affected applicants to discuss their concerns and provide clarity regarding the allocation process.
The planned engagement is expected to give applicants an opportunity to receive direct updates on the status of their applications, understand the factors behind the delays, and obtain information on the next phase of the allocation process.
Residents who have been seeking answers regarding their applications have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the intervention will help resolve uncertainties that have persisted for months.
The Boma Yangu programme forms part of the government's Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to increase access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans across different income groups. Thousands of Kenyans have registered under the initiative and made contributions in anticipation of securing housing units in various projects across the country.
However, as demand for affordable housing continues to rise, concerns have occasionally emerged regarding communication, allocation timelines, and the processing of applications, prompting calls for greater transparency and regular updates to applicants.
Hon. Chege reaffirmed her commitment to protecting the interests of Nairobi South Ward residents and ensuring that the housing allocation process remains transparent, accountable, and fair.
She noted that access to affordable housing is a critical issue for many families and that applicants deserve timely communication regarding the status of their investments and applications.
The MCA further urged residents to use the provided contact strictly for matters relating to pending Boma Yangu housing allocations, warning that unrelated inquiries could slow down the verification process and delay responses to affected applicants.
She expressed confidence that the collaborative approach involving her office and the management of the Boma Yangu housing programme would help resolve outstanding concerns and provide much-needed clarity to applicants who have been waiting for updates.
As the verification exercise gets underway, affected applicants are being encouraged to submit their details as soon as possible to ensure their cases are included in the discussions with the housing programme's leadership.
The planned meeting between applicants and the Boma Yangu CEO is expected to shed light on the status of pending allocations and provide a platform for addressing questions that have lingered among residents eager to secure their affordable housing units.
For many applicants, the initiative represents a crucial opportunity to finally receive answers regarding their applications and the future of their homeownership journey under the government's flagship affordable housing programme.
