Inside Uasin Gishu's Health Transformation: Facilities Shine Under Dr. Bii's Nguzo II Agenda

The County Government of Uasin Gishu County has reported major improvements in healthcare service delivery following an extensive supervision exercise across health facilities in Moiben and Soy sub-counties, reinforcing Governor Jonathan Bii's Nguzo Number Two agenda on accessible, quality, and efficient healthcare.

The inspection, led by Health Services CECM Janet Kurgat alongside Acting Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Services Billy Lubanga and Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus, assessed service delivery standards, staffing levels, sanitation, availability of medicines, and implementation of key health programs.

Health officials reported encouraging findings across the facilities visited. At Tangasir Dispensary in Karuna Meibeki, inspectors found adequate stocks of essential medicines, operational laboratory services, and a fully functional maternity unit capable of handling emergencies. The facility is currently staffed by two nurses, a clinical officer, and a laboratory technologist.

Kapsoni Dispensary was praised for maintaining uninterrupted healthcare services, adequate staffing, and sufficient drug supplies, while Meibeki Dispensary stood out for its reliable water supply, functional maternity wing, and effective immunization services supported by a well-maintained vaccine cold chain system.

In Soy Sub-County, Barsombe Health Centre received commendation for exemplary sanitation standards, active registration of residents under the Social Health Authority (SHA), and robust water infrastructure that ensures a consistent supply of clean water. Chepterit Dispensary also earned recognition for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention measures, and strong patient attendance.

The supervision team noted that Segero Central Dispensary is actively registering residents under the SHA program while providing laboratory, pharmacy, and maternity services. The facility conducts an average of 10 deliveries every month and maintains a well-organized stock of medicines.

Meanwhile, Ziwa Sub-County Hospital continues to expand its role as a referral facility, offering specialized healthcare services through functional inpatient wards and a fully operational theatre. Hospital records indicate that it performs approximately 16 Caesarean section deliveries and handles up to 200 normal deliveries, in addition to carrying out specialized surgical procedures such as distal radius surgeries.

During the visit, Janet Kurgat applauded teacher Charles Kiptoo for supporting patient Ian Kipkosgei through a successful knee arthroplasty procedure, describing the gesture as a powerful example of community compassion and responsibility.

County health leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening healthcare systems, improving infrastructure, ensuring a steady supply of medicines, and enhancing service delivery across all facilities.

The exercise was also attended by Director of Medical Services Evans Kiprotich, Director of Preventive and Promotive Services Laban Kiprop, and Director of Nursing Services Betty Chirchir.

Officials said the findings highlight the county's continued investment in healthcare transformation, with a focus on delivering quality, accessible, and patient-centered services to residents across Uasin Gishu.
