Kipkoros Urges Unity, Warns Against ‘Divisive Remarks’ Over Laikipia Ebola Facility Claims

 Baringo North Member of Parliament Joseph Kipkoros Makilap has cautioned against what he termed divisive political rhetoric following remarks linking the Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia to alleged plans targeting residents.

Makilap criticized the statements attributed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing them as unfortunate and capable of fueling fear and regional mistrust at a time when national unity is needed.

Speaking in a measured but firm tone, the legislator urged leaders to exercise restraint in their public commentary, warning that such narratives risk isolating communities instead of bringing Kenyans together.

He emphasized that public health infrastructure, including quarantine and disease surveillance facilities, are meant to protect citizens and strengthen national preparedness rather than target specific regions.

“It is important that leaders avoid statements that may create unnecessary fear or suggest exclusion of any part of the country,” he said, adding that Kenya’s challenges require collective responsibility rather than division.

Makilap further called for respect in political discourse, noting that leaders carry the responsibility of shaping public perception and should therefore avoid remarks that could be misinterpreted or inflame tensions.

He urged Kenyans to remain united and support government efforts in strengthening health systems and emergency response mechanisms across all counties.

The MP’s remarks come amid ongoing public debate over the location and purpose of health emergency facilities, with leaders increasingly weighing in on the political interpretation of national infrastructure projects.

Makilap concluded by appealing for calm, understanding, and unity, stressing that development and public health should never be politicized.
