Kenya Tightens Border Surveillance as Ebola Cases Rise in Neighboring Countries
Kenya has reaffirmed its readiness to prevent the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) following reported outbreaks in neighboring Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, assuring citizens that the country remains Ebola-free.
During recent inspection visits to the Busia and Malaba One Stop Border Posts, health authorities assessed preparedness measures aimed at strengthening the country's defenses against the deadly virus. The inspections focused on evaluating surveillance systems, screening procedures, and emergency response mechanisms at key entry points.
According to the Ministry of Health, all 59 suspected Ebola cases that have been investigated in Kenya tested negative, providing reassurance that no confirmed case has been detected within the country.
To bolster border health security while facilitating safe cross-border trade and movement, the government has intensified preventive measures. These include enhanced disease surveillance, strengthened laboratory testing capacity in Nairobi and Kisumu, and increased traveler screening at all points of entry.
Health officials also highlighted improved coordination among government agencies and partners to ensure rapid detection and response should any suspected case arise.
The Ministry commended frontline healthcare workers, border officials, and partner organizations for their dedication and vigilance in safeguarding public health.
As authorities continue to monitor developments in the region, members of the public have been urged to maintain proper hygiene practices, remain alert to Ebola symptoms, and seek information only from verified Ministry of Health and official government communication channels.
The government reiterated its commitment to protecting Kenyans from potential health threats and called on citizens to work together in combating misinformation surrounding the disease.
"Preparedness remains our strongest defense," health officials emphasized, urging continued public cooperation as regional monitoring efforts continues.
