Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi Donates Wheelchair to 74-Year-Old Woman After Year-Long Appeal
A 74-year-old woman from Tuiyo in Kapseret has received a new lease on life after Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi fulfilled her long-standing request for a wheelchair.
Mama Mary Chelabul, who has relied on crutches for the past 20 years due to mobility challenges, was presented with the wheelchair on Saturday in a gesture aimed at improving her quality of life and restoring her independence.
According to MP Sudi, Mama Mary had been requesting assistance since last year. Her condition had left her largely bedridden, making even the simplest daily activities difficult.
Despite her struggles, Mama Mary is remembered in her community as a resilient and determined woman who single-handedly raised her children under challenging circumstances.
"Today we gave Mama Mary Chelabul, 74, of Tuiyo in Kapseret the wheelchair she’s been asking for since last year," Sudi said. "For 20 years she’s moved on crutches, and being bedridden made even simple things hard. Yet she single-handedly raised her children with strength and quiet dignity."
The legislator noted that while the wheelchair cannot erase the hardships she has endured over the years, it will significantly improve her future by enhancing her mobility and enabling her to participate more actively in community life.
"This wheelchair won’t change her past, but it will change her days ahead. It gives Mama Mary movement, dignity, and a chance to sit outside and be part of life again," he added.
The donation was warmly received by family members and residents, who described the gesture as life-changing for the elderly woman. Community members expressed hope that the support would help her regain a sense of independence and improve her overall well-being.
The wheelchair is expected to ease Mama Mary's daily challenges and allow her to engage more comfortably with family, friends, and the wider community.
