“I Wore the Uniform to Inspire Them” – Senator Essy Okenyuri Returns to Kenya High School to Motivate Future Leaders

 Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting education and mentoring young learners, revealing that her journey to the Senate was inspired by the discipline and focus she cultivated as a student.

Speaking during a mentorship visit to Kenya High School, her alma mater, the Senator said joining the Senate prompted her to reflect on the transformative role education played in her life. She noted that her academic dedication opened doors that eventually led her to the country's highest decision-making institutions.

"As soon as I joined the August House, I looked back and thought for a minute; were it not for my efforts to focus on my studies and take education seriously, perhaps I wouldn't have made it through the doors of the Senate," she said.

The Senator explained that the realization inspired a personal pledge to wear school uniforms whenever she visits learning institutions as a symbol of encouragement and solidarity with students. According to her, school uniforms are not a punishment but a tool that promotes discipline, equality, coexistence and a conducive learning environment.

Through the Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation, the legislator has been visiting schools across the country, donating textbooks and other learning materials while mentoring learners and encouraging them to remain focused on their academic goals.

During her visit to Kenya High School, Okenyuri shared emotional memories of her days as a student, recalling her time in Naivasha House and classrooms 1K2, 2K2, 3S5 and 4S5.

Standing before the students, she reminded them that she once sat in the same classrooms with dreams, aspirations and hopes for the future. She encouraged the girls to remain disciplined, work hard and believe in their ability to achieve greatness.

"I wanted them to know that even as a Senator, I can still relate to them because I once walked the same paths and had the same dreams they have today," she said.

The Senator urged the students to maximize the opportunities available to them at Kenya High School, describing the institution as a gateway to limitless possibilities. She emphasized that focus, purpose, determination and self-belief are key ingredients for success.

Her message resonated with many students, as she challenged them to dream big, pursue excellence and prepare themselves to become future leaders capable of transforming Kenya and the world.

The mentorship session forms part of her broader campaign to inspire young people through education, leadership and personal development while creating hope for learners across the country.
