The government has intensified public health surveillance at key entry points, with Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, leading an inspection tour of Eldoret International Airport amid growing regional concerns over Ebola outbreaks.

During the visit, the PS assessed the airport's preparedness measures aimed at preventing the potential spread of infectious diseases into the country. The inspection focused on passenger screening systems, emergency response readiness, infection prevention protocols, and coordination mechanisms between health officials and airport authorities.

Muthoni emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust surveillance system at all points of entry to ensure the safety and well-being of Kenyans.

"The Ministry is keen on heightened vigilance, strengthening surveillance and preparedness at all points of entry to safeguard public health," she said.

Health officials reviewed existing procedures for detecting and responding to suspected cases, including isolation protocols and rapid response measures. The visit also provided an opportunity to evaluate the level of preparedness among frontline personnel tasked with monitoring travelers arriving from different destinations.

The government's renewed focus on border health security comes as several countries in the region remain on alert following reported Ebola concerns, prompting authorities to reinforce preventive measures and public health monitoring.

Officials reiterated that while no Ebola cases have been reported at the airport, continuous monitoring and preparedness remain critical in preventing potential outbreaks and ensuring a swift response should any public health threat emerge.

The Ministry of Health has pledged to continue working closely with airport management, health agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen disease surveillance and protect the country from cross-border health risks.
