Dream on the Brink: Marakwet Medical Student Appeals for Help to Stay in School
Winnie Jerop Kibiwott, a student pursuing Emergency and Trauma Medicine at Kenya Medical College, Kerio Valley Campus, is racing against time to raise KSh 52,518 in outstanding school fees before her July 2026 examinations.
The aspiring medic, who hails from Kapshoi Village in Tot Endo Ward, says she fears she may be unable to sit for her exams or continue with her studies if the balance is not cleared.
For Winnie, medicine is more than a career choice. It is a calling inspired by a desire to serve her community and provide lifesaving care to those in need.
"My dream is to become a healthcare professional and serve my community, saving lives and bringing hope where it is needed most," she says.
However, the road to that dream has been marked by financial hardship. According to Winnie, both of her parents are currently unemployed, making it difficult for the family to meet educational expenses. The situation is further compounded by the fact that her siblings are also pursuing their education, with her younger sister expected to join college later this year.
Despite the challenges, Winnie has remained committed to her studies and determined to complete her training.
Education, she says, represents her family's best chance at a brighter future.
Her appeal has now been directed to well-wishers, leaders, churches, friends, and members of the public who may be willing to help her bridge the financial gap and continue her journey toward becoming a healthcare worker.
Community members have described Winnie as hardworking, focused, and passionate about helping others, expressing hope that she will receive the support needed to remain in school.
As the July examination period draws closer, the young student's future hangs in the balance. Yet she remains hopeful that the generosity of well-wishers will help keep her dream alive.
For Winnie, every contribution represents more than financial assistance—it is an investment in a future healthcare professional who hopes to one day give back to her community through service and care.
Her story serves as a reminder of the challenges many bright students face in pursuing higher education and the transformative impact that collective support can have in changing lives.
For verification and further information regarding her appeal, interested well-wishers may contact the designated treasurer, Kennedy Kangongo.
As the community rallies behind her, Winnie continues to hold onto hope that her dream of becoming a medical professional will not be derailed by circumstances beyond her control.
