73 MILLION REASONS TO SMILE: Governor Wisley Rotich Awards Bursaries to 7,284 Vulnerable Students
Thousands of learners from vulnerable families across Elgeyo Marakwet have received a major boost in their pursuit of education after Governor Wisley Rotich disbursed bursaries worth Ksh 73 million.
A record 7,284 students drawn from secondary schools, Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, colleges, and universities benefited from the county government's education support programme.
Speaking during the bursary issuance exercise, Governor Rotich said the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden faced by disadvantaged families and ensuring that no deserving student is left behind due to lack of school fees.
“The support will significantly reduce the strain often experienced by vulnerable households and enable learners to concentrate on their studies without interruptions,” said the Governor.
He emphasized that bursaries remain a critical tool in promoting equity and inclusivity in education by providing opportunities for students from all backgrounds to access and complete their studies.
The Ksh 73 million allocation underscores the county administration’s commitment to investing in education as a catalyst for social and economic transformation.
Parents and beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, noting that the bursaries will help keep students in school and support their academic aspirations.
The programme is part of Governor Rotich’s broader agenda of empowering residents through education and creating equal opportunities for all learners across Elgeyo Marakwet County.
