Sudi Hosts Cross-County Dairy Summit in Kapseret, Unveils Bold Plan to Transform Farmers’ Fortunes

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has stepped up efforts to revolutionize the dairy sector after hosting delegations from Embu and Uasin Gishu counties at his model dairy farm in Kapseret. The high-impact visit brought together leaders, agricultural experts, and farmers in a collaborative forum aimed at reshaping the future of dairy farming through innovation, value addition, and knowledge sharing.

The meeting, described by participants as both timely and transformative, provided a hands-on opportunity for the visiting teams to observe modern dairy farming practices while engaging in in-depth discussions on how to unlock the sector’s full potential. At the center of the deliberations were strategies to increase milk production, improve quality, and ensure farmers reap maximum economic benefits from their efforts.

Addressing the delegation, Sudi emphasized the urgent need to shift from traditional subsistence farming to more structured, technology-driven agricultural systems. He noted that embracing modern practices is no longer optional but essential for farmers who want to remain competitive in an evolving market.

“This engagement is about empowering our farmers with practical solutions,” said Sudi. “We must adopt better breeding techniques, invest in quality animal feeds, and leverage technology to monitor production and manage our farms more efficiently. That is how we increase yields and improve incomes.”

The MP highlighted the importance of value addition as a key pillar in transforming the dairy industry. He challenged stakeholders to move beyond raw milk sales and invest in processing, packaging, and branding dairy products, noting that such initiatives could significantly increase earnings for farmers while opening doors to new markets.

“Value addition is where the real money is,” he stated. “If we process our milk into products like yogurt, cheese, and butter, we not only extend shelf life but also create jobs and boost the local economy.”

Leaders from Embu and Uasin Gishu counties praised the initiative, noting that cross-county partnerships are critical in addressing shared challenges such as fluctuating milk prices, high production costs, and limited market access. They expressed confidence that the lessons learned in Kapseret would help drive reforms and innovation in their respective regions.

Agricultural experts present at the forum also underscored the role of training and capacity building in achieving sustainable growth. They called for increased investment in farmer education, extension services, and cooperative structures to ensure that small-scale farmers are not left behind in the modernization process.

The visit also featured practical demonstrations on efficient farm management, including proper feeding programs, disease control, and the use of data-driven tools to optimize productivity. Farmers who attended the session described the experience as eye-opening, saying it gave them actionable insights they could immediately apply.

Sudi reiterated that agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy and pledged continued support for initiatives that uplift farmers and enhance food security. He revealed plans to expand similar engagements to other regions, creating a network of knowledge-sharing platforms that will accelerate growth in the dairy sector.

“Our farmers are the backbone of this country,” he said. “When we invest in them, we invest in our future. I will continue to champion programs that improve their livelihoods and make agriculture a profitable venture.”

The Kapseret meeting marks a significant step toward building a more resilient and commercially viable dairy industry. With increased collaboration, adoption of modern techniques, and a strong push for value addition, stakeholders believe the sector is poised for a major transformation that could redefine rural economies across Kenya.
