Police Officers in Moyale Intercept 11kg of Narcotics at Odda Roadblock
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, officers from the National Police Service (NPS) in Moyale intercepted 11 kilograms of suspected narcotics, concealed under the guise of food supplies, at the Odda Roadblock in Marsabit County on Monday.
The operation, which was the result of thorough intelligence gathering, saw the police team stop a Mitsubishi FH lorry, registration number KCF 273E, for routine checks at the strategic roadblock. Upon inspecting the vehicle, which was reportedly carrying agricultural produce, the officers made a startling discovery. Hidden beneath sacks of food, they found a white sack containing cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana, weighing 11 kilograms.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity is being withheld as investigations continue, was promptly arrested at the scene. The suspect was escorted to Moyale Police Station, where he is currently in custody, pending processing and subsequent arraignment in court. Additionally, the lorry involved in the trafficking attempt has been impounded and is now being held at the police station as evidence.
The NPS has hailed the operation as a major victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and criminal networks operating across the country. "This interception is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our officers who work tirelessly to ensure that illegal drugs do not make their way into our communities," said an NPS spokesperson. "We remain committed to dismantling drug syndicates and will continue to disrupt their operations wherever they may be."
The National Police Service emphasized that this latest operation highlights their strategic focus on both intelligence-led policing and public collaboration in tackling the growing menace of illicit drug trade in Kenya. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through their community safety initiatives.
The NPS has vowed to maintain its aggressive stance on narcotics enforcement, promising further operations in key areas to prevent the spread of illegal substances. The arrest is a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to rid the country of dangerous drugs, ensuring the safety and well-being of all Kenyans.
