Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba Launches Household Electrification in Arror Ward
In a landmark move to improve infrastructure and access to essential services in Marakwet West, Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba, in collaboration with staff from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), officially launched the electrification of households in Niwai sub-location, Arror Ward, this morning. This development marks a significant milestone in the region's progress toward achieving modern energy access for its residents.
The electrification project is set to benefit numerous households in Niwai sub-location, which has long been underserved in terms of electricity access. The launch event was met with great enthusiasm from local residents, who gathered to witness the beginning of a project that will drastically improve their living standards. It is expected that this project will bring the power of electricity to homes that have long been reliant on kerosene lamps, candles, and firewood.
In his address during the event, MP Kipchumba expressed his dedication to the project, stressing that despite the financial and logistical challenges, he remains committed to ensuring that every household in Arror Ward gets connected to the national grid. "I recognize the hurdles that come with implementing such projects, especially with limited resources. However, I am determined to work tirelessly and collaborate with various stakeholders to make sure that all households, not just here in Niwai, but across Arror Ward and Marakwet West, are eventually connected to the national grid," Kipchumba stated.
He highlighted the importance of electricity in the development of the area, pointing out that access to reliable power is a catalyst for economic growth and enhanced social services. "Electricity is not just about lights; it’s about creating opportunities. It enables students to study at night, businesses to operate longer hours, and households to access life-changing technologies like refrigeration and communication tools. It is essential for modern development," he said.
MP Kipchumba also emphasized the transformative impact of electricity on healthcare. "With electricity, our health centers will be able to store vaccines, operate medical equipment, and provide better services to the community. It is critical that we improve access to these resources for the wellbeing of our people," he added.
The initiative is part of Kipchumba’s broader vision to uplift Marakwet West by addressing the infrastructure gaps that hinder the region's development. Through strategic partnerships with national utilities like KPLC, the MP has been working relentlessly to ensure that the people of Marakwet West have access to the same services available to other parts of the country.
"Today, we are witnessing the beginning of a brighter future for Niwai and other parts of Arror Ward. This project represents the first step in a broader effort to connect the entire Marakwet West constituency to the national electricity grid," Kipchumba assured the crowd. He also acknowledged the importance of community involvement in making the project a success. "I want to thank the residents of Niwai for their patience and cooperation throughout this process. It is your support and persistence that have made this day possible," he said.
KPLC staff present at the launch expressed their commitment to ensuring the swift and efficient execution of the electrification works. They assured the community that the project would be completed within the set timelines and that all households in Niwai would soon enjoy the benefits of power supply.
In a heartfelt moment, Kipchumba concluded his speech by dedicating the project to the people of Arror Ward and Marakwet West, giving thanks to God for enabling the community to reach this crucial milestone. "To God be the glory, for today marks the beginning of a journey that will empower our people, improve their lives, and bring opportunities for growth. We are on the right path, and I am committed to ensuring that every corner of Marakwet West benefits from this vision," he said.
The MP also highlighted the role of electricity in empowering women and youth in the region. "When young people and women have access to electricity, they can participate in digital economies, access online education, and engage in small-scale businesses that require power. This is about lifting everyone, and ensuring that no one is left behind," he concluded.
As the event wrapped up, the community expressed their appreciation for the initiative, with many residents sharing their hopes for the positive changes electricity will bring. The electrification of Niwai sub-location is just the beginning of a broader effort to extend the national grid to other underserved areas within Marakwet West.
This electrification project is expected to stimulate the local economy, enhance educational outcomes, improve health services, and increase overall quality of life for the residents of Niwai and Arror Ward. The successful launch signals a new chapter in Marakwet West’s development, one in which access to basic services is becoming more equitable, creating new opportunities for progress and prosperity.
