Education Stakeholders Celebrate Mwalimu Simon Kiprop Tuwei’s Election as NEC 005 Representative for Rift Valley Region


A thanksgiving service was held in Cheplasgei, Uasin Gishu County, to celebrate Mwalimu Simon Kiprop Tuwei’s election as the NEC 005 Representative for the Rift Valley Region. The event was a momentous occasion that brought together a broad spectrum of education stakeholders, leaders, and community members who came together to recognize Tuwei’s years of dedication to the teaching profession and to look ahead to his new role in representing teachers at a national level. The service was attended by key figures including PS Basic Education Ambassador Julius Kibet Bitok, Nandi County Senator Kiprotich Cherargei, Kesses MP Julius Rutto, as well as officials from key education organizations like KEPSHA and KUPPET.

As the principal guest, Ambassador Julius Bitok expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Mwalimu Tuwei for his election and reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to the education sector. In his address, he noted that the event was not just a celebration of Tuwei’s election but a reflection of the importance of his new role in championing the rights and welfare of teachers. Bitok went on to highlight the government’s initiative to strengthen the education system, including the decision to double teacher promotions starting this July, aimed at motivating and recognizing the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future of the nation. 

He also mentioned the government’s efforts to recruit over 100,000 teachers as part of an ongoing effort to improve teacher-student ratios and service delivery across the country. Bitok assured the gathering that the government was committed to further empowering educators by improving their working conditions, career advancement opportunities, and ensuring fair compensation for their hard work. He also announced that teachers who supervised and invigilated national exams would receive their payments promptly, as directives had been issued to the National Treasury to facilitate this process.


 

Mwalimu Simon Kiprop Tuwei, visibly moved by the occasion, shared his profound gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him by his colleagues in the teaching profession. Tuwei emphasized that his new position was not just an honor but a responsibility he intended to take on with great seriousness.
