National Government Reaffirms Commitment to Transfer of Devolved Assets

The National Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the transfer of all devolved assets to county governments, in line with constitutional requirements and existing legal frameworks.

This assurance was issued during a consultative meeting convened by the Office of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee. The session was chaired by Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Mary Kerich, alongside Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, Julius Koech.

Senior officials from the committee attended the meeting to assess progress on the transfer process, with a key focus on identifying and verifying assets that are yet to be formally handed over and gazetted under county governments.

Participants emphasized the need to fast-track the process while maintaining strict adherence to legal and institutional guidelines. The verification exercise is expected to address delays and ensure that all pending assets are accurately documented and transferred.

Directors from relevant departments also took part, offering technical expertise to support the exercise. Their involvement is anticipated to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in finalizing the transfer of the remaining assets.

The renewed commitment signals ongoing efforts by the National Government to strengthen devolution and empower county administrations through full control of their designated resources.
