Koome Hails Warsame’s Supreme Court Nomination as Victory for Integrity and Merit

Chief Justice Martha Koome has praised the nomination of Hon. Justice Mohamed Abdulahi Warsame to the Supreme Court of Kenya, terming it a significant milestone in the Judiciary’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) concluded the highly competitive recruitment process after conducting rigorous public interviews that drew national attention. Candidates were subjected to intense scrutiny, with a strong focus on integrity, ethical conduct, independence, and professional competence.

In a statement following the announcement, Chief Justice Koome commended the Commission for adhering to constitutional principles and ensuring a fair and transparent process.

“The nomination of Justice Warsame reflects the Judiciary’s unwavering commitment to merit-based appointments and the rule of law,” she said. “He distinguished himself through his depth of legal knowledge, sound judgment, and firm grasp of constitutional principles.”

Justice Warsame, a seasoned jurist from the Court of Appeal, emerged as a standout candidate among a strong field of applicants. His performance during the interviews, coupled with his extensive judicial experience, earned him the confidence of the Commission.

Koome noted that the public vetting process was designed to reinforce trust in the Judiciary by allowing Kenyans to witness firsthand the evaluation of candidates seeking to serve at the highest level of the judicial system.

“The Supreme Court occupies a central role in interpreting the Constitution and safeguarding democracy. It is imperative that those entrusted with this responsibility embody the highest standards of integrity and independence,” she added.

The nomination now proceeds to the next constitutional steps before formal appointment. If approved, Justice Warsame will join the apex court at a critical time when the Judiciary continues to shape Kenya’s legal and democratic landscape.

Chief Justice Koome expressed confidence that his addition to the bench will enhance the Court’s ability to deliver justice impartially and uphold public confidence in the rule of law.
