Kenya Airports Authority Appoints Moses Wekesa as New CEO
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has appointed Moses Wekesa as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at the agency responsible for managing the country’s airports.
In a press statement released Tuesday, the KAA Board said Wekesa emerged as the top candidate following a “rigorous and competitive” recruitment process. He is expected to steer the authority’s strategic agenda, particularly as Kenya positions itself as a regional aviation and logistics hub.
Wekesa brings extensive international experience, having led high-impact projects across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. He previously served as Business Development Director at KenGen, where he played a key role in driving growth initiatives.
Academically, Wekesa holds an engineering degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from University of Nairobi, and postgraduate qualifications in finance, appraisal, and project planning from the University of Bradford.
The board also acknowledged the contributions of Mohamud Gedi, who has been serving as Acting Managing Director, praising his leadership during the transition period.
KAA said the appointment comes at a critical time as it accelerates modernization projects, including the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure capacity and strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness in global aviation.
Board Chair Itsayon Neepe expressed confidence in Wekesa’s ability to lead the authority into its next phase of growth, citing his strong background in infrastructure development and strategic management.
KAA is a state corporation mandated to develop, manage, and operate Kenya’s airports and airstrips, playing a central role in the country’s economic development through aviation.
