Murkomen Meets Turkana Leaders, Pledges Intensified Security and Inclusive Service Delivery
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has held a consultative meeting with elected leaders from Turkana County to assess the security situation in the region and reinforce ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.
The meeting comes amid a multi-agency security operation launched in response to recent acts of criminality in parts of the county. According to Murkomen, the operation is already yielding positive results, with improved security presence and enhanced intelligence coordination contributing to a gradual return to normalcy.
Even so, the CS said the government will not relent in its efforts. He noted that national and county leaders had resolved to sustain joint operations and intensify intelligence-led interventions to decisively deal with criminal elements and prevent further insecurity.
Murkomen emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies, local leadership, and communities in achieving sustainable peace, adding that long-term stability remains a top priority for the government.
The leaders also reviewed the ongoing Mobile ID registration exercise currently being rolled out in Turkana and other remote parts of the country. The initiative seeks to ensure that residents in hard-to-reach areas can access national identification documents and essential government services.
The Interior CS described the programme as part of broader government efforts to address historical marginalization and bridge service delivery gaps that have long affected communities in remote regions.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to security and public services, stating that lasting peace and inclusive development go hand in hand.
