Marakwet West MP Hails Elgeyo Marakwet Elimu Conference as Catalyst for Education Transformation

Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich has expressed optimism that the ongoing Elgeyo Marakwet County Elimu Conference will usher in a new era of transformation in the county’s education sector.

The conference, being held at Lornah Kiplagat Sports Academy in Iten, has brought together education stakeholders, leaders, and development partners to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening the quality of education and shaping the future of young people in the county.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Toroitich described the forum as a critical platform that will lay a firm foundation for the development of the county’s education sector and empower learners to achieve their full potential.

“The ongoing Elgeyo Marakwet County Elimu Conference will usher in a new dawn of transformation in our county. Through collective dialogue and collaboration, we are setting a clear path toward shaping the future of our young people,” he said.

The legislator emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful tools for social mobility and personal development. He quoted the late South African anti-apartheid icon and former president Nelson Mandela, who once stated that education has the power to transform lives regardless of one’s background.

“Education is a powerful engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, and the child of a farmworker can become the president of a great nation,” the quote reads.

According to the MP, the conference seeks to bring together leaders and stakeholders to discuss innovative approaches to improve learning outcomes, strengthen education policies, and ensure that students across Elgeyo Marakwet County are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the modern world.

Toroitich also acknowledged the patronage and support of Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, noting that his involvement underscores the importance of education in the county’s development agenda.

Participants at the conference are expected to explore ways of improving infrastructure, enhancing teacher support, promoting mentorship programmes, and creating opportunities that will enable learners to excel both academically and socially.

The Marakwet West MP expressed confidence that the deliberations and resolutions from the conference will contribute significantly to building a brighter future for the county’s learners.

“To God be the glory,” he concluded.
