Lusaka Rolls Out Free Farm Inputs to 22,500 Bungoma Farmers

The Bungoma County Government has launched the distribution of free farm inputs to 22,500 vulnerable farmers in a move aimed at boosting agricultural production and strengthening household food security across the county.

The programme was officially launched at Namwacha Primary School in West Sang’alo Ward and will benefit farmers from all the 45 wards in Bungoma County. Under the initiative, 500 farmers from each ward will receive certified farm inputs to support them during the current planting season.

Each beneficiary will receive 10 kilograms of certified maize seeds, 50 kilograms of planting fertilizer, and 50 kilograms of top-dressing fertilizer to help improve crop yields and support sustainable farming.

Speaking during the launch, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the initiative is part of the county administration’s strategy to empower farmers and enhance food security.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our county’s economy. Through this initiative, we are supporting our farmers with quality inputs to enable them increase production and ensure food security for their families and the entire county,” said Governor Lusaka.

The governor urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the farm inputs to improve productivity and warned against selling the supplies.

“I urge all beneficiaries to utilize these inputs for their intended purpose. Do not sell them. Let us take advantage of this support to improve our farms and secure food for our communities,” he added.

County officials noted that the distribution exercise is part of a broader agricultural support programme by the Bungoma County Government aimed at cushioning vulnerable farmers and promoting sustainable farming practices across the region.

The initiative is expected to significantly boost maize production and improve food availability in Bungoma County as farmers take advantage of the ongoing planting season.
