Leaders Receive Remains of MP Johanna Ngeno at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital After Tragic Helicopter Crash

Leaders from across the Rift Valley region on Sunday gathered at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) to receive the remains of Johanna Ngeno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, who perished in a tragic helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County.

The crash claimed six lives, including that of the legislator, sending shockwaves across Narok County and the nation at large.

MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kirwa confirmed that the bodies were badly burned in the crash, making identification a challenge. He said the remains were burned beyond recognition and would not be open for public viewing until they are prepared appropriately.

“We have viewed the bodies and they are in a bad condition where you cannot tell which body is whose. The public will not be allowed to view the bodies until they are in a good condition,” he said.

Among those present at the hospital was Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, who described the late MP as a fearless and dedicated servant of the people.

“Hon. Johanna Ngeno was a true friend to many, fearlessly standing with his people and championing justice, unity, local talent and genuine progress for his constituency. His sudden passing has left a deep void in Emurua Dikirr, Narok and across the nation,” said Bii.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, confirming that six lives were lost in the crash.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Hon. Johanna Ngeno and the five others who perished. On behalf of the leadership and the people of Nandi, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and all those affected by this tragic loss,” he said.

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich urged the public to allow medical personnel time to handle the remains with dignity and professionalism.

“The bodies are in a situation that we may not all be able to view. We want to allow MTRH and the team to work on them and give the family space during this difficult time,” he said.

Kesses MP Julius Ruto termed the moment a painful one for the country, saying leaders, hospital officials, families and friends had gathered in profound grief.

“Our hearts are shattered, our spirits weighed down, and words are insufficient. It is a deeply painful and sorrowful day for our nation,” he said.

The tragic helicopter crash has cast a pall of mourning over Nandi County, Emurua Dikirr and the wider country, with leaders calling for unity and support for the bereaved families as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
