Wanga Says ODM Will Consult Sifuna to “Organise Party Affairs”
Homa Bay Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson Gladys Wanga has said the party leadership will engage Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in efforts to streamline internal matters following recent wrangles within the party.
Speaking amid ongoing tensions in ODM, Wanga stated that the party would hold discussions with Sifuna, who has served as Secretary-General, to find a way forward.“We will talk to our SG Senator Sifuna tuone vile tutatengeneza mambo yetu ya ODM,” Wanga said, signaling attempts at reconciliation.
The remarks come days after leadership changes within the Orange Democratic Movement sparked debate over the party’s direction and unity.
Leadership Dispute
Sifuna, who has been serving as Nairobi Senator since 2022, was removed as ODM Secretary-General during a National Delegates Convention meeting held in Mombasa earlier this month.
However, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal temporarily halted the implementation of his removal, setting the stage for further legal and political battles over the position.
The move exposed divisions within ODM, with some leaders backing the changes while others rallied behind Sifuna.
Call for Unity
Wanga’s statement suggests the party leadership is seeking dialogue rather than confrontation as it attempts to stabilise its structures ahead of future political engagements.
ODM, one of Kenya’s major political parties founded in 2005, has played a central role in national politics for nearly two decades.
Political observers say the outcome of the consultations between Wanga and Sifuna could determine whether the party emerges united or further fractured.
