Soy MP David Kiplagat Launches 1,000 SHA Beneficiaries, Leads Free Medical Camp in Ziwa
David Kiplagat today led the launch of 1,000 Social Health Authority (SHA) beneficiaries and a large-scale free medical camp at Chepkigen Grounds in Ziwa, marking what he described as a transformative step toward improving access to affordable and quality healthcare across Soy Constituency.
The event attracted hundreds of residents from Ziwa and neighboring areas, many of whom turned up as early as morning hours to benefit from the comprehensive medical services offered during the outreach. The camp provided general medical consultations, dental care, radiology services, laboratory testing, surgical consultations, orthopedic assessments, and health education sessions aimed at promoting preventive care.
Addressing the gathering, Kiplagat said the dual initiative — enrolling 1,000 residents into the Social Health Authority and delivering free on-site treatment — reflects his office’s deliberate focus on strengthening social health protection systems at the grassroots level.
“This initiative is more than just an event — it is a firm commitment to our people. By enrolling 1,000 beneficiaries into SHA, we are protecting families from the devastating financial strain that often comes with medical emergencies,” he said.
The MP emphasized that many households in Soy Constituency struggle to meet healthcare costs, especially for specialized services such as radiology and surgical consultations. He noted that expanding SHA coverage ensures that vulnerable families, including the elderly and low-income households, are shielded from catastrophic health expenditures.
Healthcare professionals at the camp attended to patients throughout the day, diagnosing chronic illnesses, conducting laboratory tests, offering dental procedures, and referring complex cases for further management. Health education forums were also held to sensitize residents on preventive care, nutrition, hygiene, and the importance of early medical check-ups.
Local leaders who attended the event praised the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that access to comprehensive healthcare services remains a challenge in some parts of the constituency. Community members expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive free treatment and enroll in SHA without traveling long distances.
Kiplagat reiterated that healthcare is not a privilege but a constitutional right that must be made accessible to all citizens regardless of economic status.
“Our goal is to build a healthier, stronger, and more empowered Soy. When our people are healthy, they are productive, and when they are productive, our entire constituency prospers,” he said.
The MP also thanked healthcare professionals, development partners, administrators, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. He pledged to continue rolling out people-centered programs aimed at improving service delivery, protecting dignity, and enhancing livelihoods.
The launch of the 1,000 SHA beneficiaries and the medical outreach signals a broader push by the Soy MP’s office to expand healthcare access and ensure that no resident is left behind in accessing essential medical services.
