Presidential Candidate Reuben Kigame Meets Governor Wilber Otichilo in Vihiga, Calls for Value-Based Leadership and Youth Empowerment

Presidential candidate Reuben Kigame today held talks with Wilber Otichilo in Vihiga County, in a meeting that focused on strengthening family values, community empowerment, and youth development.

The morning engagement, described as cordial and forward-looking, centered on the importance of restoring core values within families, religious institutions, schools, and governance structures. Kigame underscored the need for value-based leadership as a foundation for sustainable development and social transformation.

“We must prioritize the values that shape our families, guide our communities, and influence our institutions. Leadership must be anchored on integrity, responsibility, and service to the people,” Kigame said after the meeting.

The two leaders also exchanged ideas on practical interventions to address pressing social challenges in Vihiga County, including substance abuse and poverty. Kigame emphasized the urgency of coordinated community-driven approaches to tackle drug and alcohol abuse, particularly among young people, noting that the problem continues to undermine families and economic productivity.

Governor Otichilo and Kigame discussed strengthening partnerships between county and national stakeholders to expand prevention programs, rehabilitation support, and economic empowerment initiatives aimed at vulnerable groups.

Youth empowerment featured prominently in the discussions, with both leaders highlighting the potential of arts and sports as transformative platforms. Kigame advocated for structured talent development programs to nurture creativity and athletic excellence, arguing that such initiatives can open up employment opportunities while steering young people away from crime and substance abuse.

“Our young people are gifted. When we invest in talent development in arts and sports, we not only create opportunities but also build discipline, purpose, and national pride,” Kigame noted.

The meeting reflects Kigame’s broader campaign message centered on ethical governance, social renewal, and inclusive empowerment. He reiterated his commitment to working with leaders across political divides to promote responsible leadership and community-centered development.

Both leaders expressed optimism about future collaboration aimed at strengthening families, empowering youth, and fostering responsible governance in Vihiga County and beyond.
