Uasin Gishu Rehabilitates 112 Cattle Dips, Vaccinates Over 102,000 Cattle – Governor Bii
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has highlighted major strides made by his administration in strengthening livestock health and productivity across the county, citing the rehabilitation and recharging of key livestock infrastructure and the rollout of a mass vaccination programme.
Speaking in Ziwa Ward during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Kapsang Cattle Dip, Governor Bii said the county has, within a record three years, rehabilitated 112 cattle dips and successfully recharged 178 dips, restoring critical livestock infrastructure and improving herd health at the grassroots level.
“In a record three years, we have rehabilitated 112 cattle dips and recharged 178 across the county. This has restored critical livestock infrastructure and significantly improved herd health for our farmers,” the governor said.
Governor Bii noted that the county is also implementing a countywide mass vaccination programme against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) through a digitised e-voucher system, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and farmer access.
“To date, 102,872 cattle have been vaccinated out of a target of 355,000. This positions our livestock sector for both domestic and export markets,” he said.
The governor commissioned the Kapsang Cattle Dip at dawn, noting that the facility is expected to serve over 1,000 cattle every week, easing the burden on livestock keepers and reducing disease outbreaks in the area.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to modernising agriculture and livestock production, adding that healthy herds are key to boosting farmer incomes, food security, and economic growth in Uasin Gishu County.
Local leaders and farmers welcomed the initiative, saying the restored cattle dip and vaccination programme will greatly enhance livestock productivity and reduce losses caused by preventable diseases.
