Uasin Gishu County Admits 12 Clients to Moiben Rehabilitation Centre in Fight Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has intensified its campaign against alcohol and drug abuse after admitting 12 clients with substance use disorders to the Moiben Rehabilitation Centre for a 90-day recovery programme.
The admission exercise was conducted on Monday by the Directorate of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB). Speaking on behalf of ADCB Director Koiya Arap Maiyo, ADCB officer Joan Chebon emphasized that recovery from substance use disorders is a structured and deliberate process that begins with an individual’s willingness and commitment to change.
Ms. Chebon noted that admission into the Moiben facility marks a critical milestone in the journey toward rehabilitation, transformation, and restoration of hope for individuals affected by alcohol and drug abuse.
She explained that the admission process involves thorough screening and assessment of clients based on their substance use history. This is followed by obtaining informed consent and the development of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan that guides the multidisciplinary treatment team throughout the three-month rehabilitation period.
According to Ms. Chebon, the Moiben Rehabilitation Centre employs a biopsychosocial treatment approach designed to address the physical, psychological, spiritual, and social dimensions of recovery, ensuring holistic and sustainable outcomes for clients.
Family members who accompanied the admitted clients expressed gratitude to Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii for sustaining free rehabilitation services at the facility. They acknowledged that the programme has played a significant role in restoring families and communities affected by alcohol and drug abuse.
Since its establishment, the Moiben Rehabilitation Centre has served clients from all 30 wards across the county, underscoring the county government’s commitment to equitable access to rehabilitation and treatment services.
Before completing the 90-day programme and being reintegrated into the community, clients undergo structured treatment interventions, including individual and group therapy, counselling sessions, and life skills training. These interventions are aimed at restoring health, rebuilding self-confidence, and promoting productive reintegration into society.
Several ADCB officers were present during the admission exercise, reaffirming the county’s continued commitment to combating alcohol and drug abuse and supporting recovery efforts across Uasin Gishu County.
