Trans Nzoia Officials Urge Natembeya Cup Winners to Spend Prize Money Wisely

The Trans Nzoia County Government has advised teams that benefited from Governor George Natembeya’s 2025 Cup to invest their prize money prudently in order to improve their livelihoods and secure their future.

Senior county officials on Wednesday told the winning teams that proper management of the funds could help them generate sustainable income and open up greater opportunities beyond the tournament.

A total of Sh5 million was awarded to eight top-performing teams during the Natembeya Cup, with the finals held on December 1 at Luuya Primary School in Keiyo Ward.

Speaking during the final issuance of prize money to the second batch of teams at the Kitale County boardroom, Finance and Economic Planning CEC Dr Pepela Wanjala, Chief Officer for Governance Sammy Sichangi, and Chief Officer for Public Service Management Philip Kapten emphasized the importance of financial discipline among the youth.

Dr Wanjala congratulated the teams for their impressive performance in the tournament, noting that sports can be a powerful tool for economic empowerment if well supported.

He encouraged the players to aim higher by seeking opportunities in bigger teams, saying this would not only enhance their skills but also help secure their long-term future.

The finance CEC added that he would engage the county leadership to explore ways through which the teams can collaborate, formalize their structures, and register to compete in the Super League.

Chief Officer Sammy Sichangi urged the youth to take advantage of existing talent development platforms, including registering with the Mozzart Bet talent development initiative, which he said could expose them to scouts and professional opportunities.

The county officials reiterated the county government’s commitment to nurturing youth talent through sports, adding that initiatives such as the Natembeya Cup are designed not only to promote unity and healthy competition, but also to create economic opportunities for young people across Trans Nzoia County.
