Four Arrested Over Sh40 Million Fake TSC Recruitment Scam

Four people have been arrested in Bomet County in connection with a large-scale fraud scheme involving fake Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recruitment letters that defrauded job seekers of more than Sh40 million.

Detectives attached to the TSC arrested the suspects following an extensive investigation into the scam that targeted unemployed teachers and members of the public. Those arrested are David Kemei, the TSC Director for Konoin Sub-County; Rosebella Chepkemoi Korir, a former Bomet County Woman Representative aspirant; and two teachers, Leonard Siele Towett and Mercy Cherotich.

Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly demanded large sums of money from victims in exchange for forged TSC appointment letters, falsely promising permanent and pensionable employment. Many of the victims reportedly took loans, sold property, or depleted their savings in the hope of securing jobs.

The four suspects were arraigned on Tuesday at the Bomet Law Courts, where detectives were granted 14-day custodial orders to allow for further investigations.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the fraud syndicate is believed to extend beyond Bomet County to neighboring regions including Kericho, Narok, Kisii, and Nyamira. Detectives say efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other suspects linked to the network.

The DCI, working in collaboration with the TSC, reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks that exploit job seekers and erode public trust in government institutions.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify all recruitment opportunities through official TSC channels, emphasizing that the commission does not charge any fees for employment.

Members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam and are yet to report are encouraged to come forward. Reports can be made anonymously through #FichuaKwaDCI via the toll-free number 0800 722 203, WhatsApp at 0709 570 000, or at the nearest police station.
