Three Arrested as Police Recover AK-47 in Crackdown on Uasin Gishu Gang

Residents of Uasin Gishu County have received a major security boost following the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious criminal gang and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi has said.

The suspects—Titus Wainaina Njoroge, Jeremiah Njuguna Kinyanjui alias Chikudee, and Patrick Kinuthia Mwangi—were arrested during a joint operation conducted by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), with support from the Operations Unit at the DCI Headquarters and officers based in Uasin Gishu County, Commander Mwanthi said.

He noted that the firearm was discovered hidden in a thicket within the homestead of one of the suspects, Titus Wainaina Njoroge, following a targeted search by detectives.

According to Commander Mwanthi, the trio is believed to be part of a ruthless gang that has been terrorising residents through armed robberies and other violent crimes across the county. He said investigations have linked the suspects to several serious offences, including a chilling incident on 22 November 2025 in which a family was reportedly held hostage, robbed of their motor vehicle, and forced to transfer money from their mobile wallets.

Commander Mwanthi further stated that investigations have also connected the gang to a robbery with violence that resulted in the murder of Richard Rotich, a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, on 7 January 2026. He added that the gang is known to operate using fraudulently acquired identities to evade arrest.

Police records show that Titus Wainaina Njoroge, also known as Bikos, is a repeat offender with a long criminal history. Commander Mwanthi said the suspect has previously been implicated in an attempted robbery reported at Eldoret Police Station in 2011, a robbery with violence case at Langas Police Station in 2017, and escapes from lawful custody at Eldoret Police Station in 2012 and Eldoret Court in 2014.

The three suspects are currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue, Commander Mwanthi said, adding that police have intensified efforts to arrest other gang members who are still at large.

He urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting criminals.
