Uasin Gishu High School Posts Mixed KCSE 2025 Results, Raising Academic Concerns

Uasin Gishu High School’s performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations has highlighted a notable shift for an institution that was once regarded as one of the top-performing day schools in the Eldoret region.

Out of 357 candidates who sat for the national examination, the school recorded a mean score of 4.77, translating to an overall grade of C-. While a small number of learners posted commendable individual results, the overall outcome reflects a worrying concentration of grades in the lower bands.

Analysis of the results shows that 177 candidates scored D+ and below, accounting for nearly half of the candidature. The largest clusters were recorded in D (68 candidates), D+ (65 candidates) and C- (60 candidates), painting a picture of declining academic performance and raising concerns among education stakeholders.

Education analysts note that the results represent a significant departure from the school’s past reputation as a strong day school, sparking questions about the factors contributing to the downward trend.

Although a few students attained grades that qualify them for further academic and professional opportunities, the overall distribution suggests challenges in academic consistency and learner support.

School administrators and education officials are expected to review the results in detail to identify gaps in teaching, learning and student welfare, with a view to reversing the decline. Stakeholders have also pointed to the need for strengthened academic mentorship, enhanced learning resources and closer collaboration between teachers, parents and the school management.

The 2025 KCSE performance has reignited debate on the broader challenges facing public day schools, including resource constraints, high enrolment and limited study time, as Uasin Gishu High School looks to reclaim its former academic standing in future examinations.
