Sh1.19 Million Worth of Heroin Seized in Nakuru as DCI Arrests Suspected Trafficker

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized heroin valued at Sh1.19 million in an intelligence-led operation in Nakuru.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was apprehended while riding a motorcycle registration number KMEC 785W. According to investigators, the suspect drew the attention of detectives due to suspicious luggage he was carrying.

A thorough search of the luggage led to the recovery of 397 grams of heroin, which had been carefully concealed for transportation. Also recovered during the operation were two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes.

Detectives believe the arrest disrupted an ongoing drug supply operation within Nakuru and its surrounding areas.

Kariuki is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue, ahead of his arraignment in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks through sustained operations and multi-agency collaboration. The agency emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking, noting that no individual, regardless of status, will be spared.

Members of the public are encouraged to report drug-related activities anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative by calling 0800 722 203 (toll-free) or sending a WhatsApp message to 0709 570 000.

“Usiogope. Together, we can build a safer, drug-free Kenya,” the DCI stated.
