National Government, Trans Nzoia Leaders Hold Talks to Fast-Track Development Projects
The national government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating development in Trans Nzoia County, citing the region’s critical role in Kenya’s food security and overall economic growth.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said there is a need to intensify efforts to unlock the county’s full potential and respond more effectively to the needs and aspirations of its residents.
Speaking after a consultative meeting held on Tuesday afternoon in Nairobi, Murkomen said the talks brought together national government officials and leaders from Trans Nzoia to review the implementation of key government projects and programmes in the county.
The meeting, chaired by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir at his Transcom House office, focused on infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on road networks to support investment, agricultural productivity, and accelerated economic growth.
Murkomen noted that improved infrastructure is central to enhancing market access, lowering the cost of doing business, and strengthening Trans Nzoia’s position as one of the country’s leading food-producing regions.
He lauded the collaboration between national government agencies and local leaders, saying the partnership was crucial to ensuring development initiatives deliver tangible benefits to the people.
Among those present were Roads Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, Endebes MP Dr Robert Pukose, Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lillian Siyoi, National Standards Council Chairman Dr Chris Wamalwa, and Central Bank of Kenya Deputy Governor Dr Susan Koech, alongside other government officials.
The government said it will continue engaging leaders and stakeholders to ensure coordinated implementation of projects aimed at driving sustainable development and economic growth in Trans Nzoia County.
