Natembeya Condemns Attack on Former Deputy President Gachagua at Church Service

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has strongly condemned an attack directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while he was attending a church service, describing the incident as unacceptable and a violation of the sanctity of places of worship.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Natembeya emphasized that churches and other places of worship must remain spaces of peace, unity, and mutual respect, free from violence, intimidation, or political confrontation.

“Such actions go against our shared values as a society. Differences, whether political or personal, should always be addressed through dialogue and lawful means, not aggression,” Natembeya said.

The governor warned that allowing violence to spill into sacred spaces threatens social cohesion and undermines national stability. He called on leaders across the political divide to exercise restraint and promote tolerance, especially at a time when the country needs unity.

Natembeya also urged relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable in accordance with the law.

“No individual, regardless of their political standing, should be subjected to violence, and no place of worship should ever become a theatre of confrontation,” he added.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from leaders and members of the public, with renewed calls for respect for religious institutions and peaceful political engagement.
