Murkomen Condemns Violence at Witima ACK Church, Orders Swift Investigations
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly condemned an incident of violence that occurred at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, terming it unacceptable and deeply troubling.
In a statement issued on the incident, Murkomen said violence has no place in society, especially within places of worship, which should remain sanctuaries of peace and reflection.
“I have noted with great concern the incident at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County. Violence anywhere, and least of all in a place of worship, is unacceptable,” Murkomen said.
The CS disclosed that he had held discussions with the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, who assured him that investigations had already commenced and would be conducted with urgency.
According to Murkomen, police have been directed to act decisively and impartially in bringing all those responsible to justice, including both perpetrators and their sponsors.
“The police must move without fear or favour and deal decisively with the sponsors and perpetrators of this act without regard to their status in society or political affiliation,” he stated.
Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding democratic principles, including the right to lawful assembly and freedom of worship.
“As a Government, we remain firmly committed to upholding the tenets of democracy, including the right to lawful assembly and freedom of worship,” he added.
The Interior CS further urged residents of the area to remain calm as law enforcement agencies carry out investigations and restore order.
“I urge members of the public in the area to remain calm as law enforcement agencies address the matter,” Murkomen said.
