IEC Chair Urges Integrity Ahead of TENP Students’ Elections
The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) at The Eldoret National Polytechnic, Edward Kiprop, has called on commission members to uphold integrity of the highest order as the institution prepares for the upcoming students’ elections.
Speaking during a brief meeting that lasted about 30 minutes, Kiprop emphasized the critical role of the electoral body in safeguarding credibility, transparency, and fairness throughout the election process.
“I promise you that my team is qualified for the task and ready to deliver what is expected of them,” Kiprop said.
The elections will see students contest various leadership positions, including the Chairperson of the institution, among other key dockets. Kiprop noted that the commission he leads bears a heavy responsibility to ensure that the will of the students is respected.
In an interview with the TENP Press Club, the IEC chairperson reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to fairness, accountability, and strict adherence to the electoral framework guiding the process.
“Let us be keen on what we do and ensure this election is free and fair. Anyone found acting against the law will be answerable,” he said, vowing to deliver leaders genuinely elected by the students themselves.
The call for fairness was echoed by Deputy IEC Chairperson Geoffrey Odhiambo and Commission Secretary Sharon Atyang, who are leading the team of election observers. They underscored the need for impartiality and professionalism at all stages of the exercise.
The democratic process is expected to culminate in the students’ elections scheduled for January 21, with the commission assuring learners of a free, fair, and credible poll.
