Governor Lusaka Visits Anti-Corruption Protester Flora Anyango, Pledges Full Scholarship

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has visited Flora Anyango at Hopkins Hospital, days after her dramatic 74-hour tree-hugging protest at Bungoma Posta Grounds captured public attention and sparked conversations on corruption.

Flora, described by many as a symbol of civic courage, endured the three-day protest as a personal stand against corruption, saying her action was meant to awaken public conscience rather than seek fame or recognition. The prolonged demonstration took a toll on her health, leading to her hospitalization.

During the visit, Governor Lusaka praised Flora’s bravery and resilience, terming her action a rare display of selfless patriotism and moral courage.

“Flora represents the conscience of our society,” the Governor said. “Her courage reminds us that the fight against corruption requires sacrifice, integrity, and fearless citizens.”

In a significant show of support, Governor Lusaka announced that the Bungoma County Government will fully fund Flora Anyango’s Beauty Therapy course until completion. He noted that the commitment was meant to encourage young people who stand up for integrity and social justice.

“Courage should never go unnoticed,” he added. “Bungoma will always stand with its heroes.”

The Governor wished Flora a quick recovery and encouraged residents to embrace ethical leadership and accountability in both public and private life.

Flora’s protest has since drawn widespread praise from civil society groups and members of the public, with many hailing her as an inspiration to the youth and a powerful reminder of the role ordinary citizens can play in demanding good governance.

Her story continues to resonate across Bungoma County and beyond, reinforcing the message that meaningful change can begin with the courage of one individual.
