Digital Platforms Empower Communities in Baringo to Report Corruption and Abuse Anonymously
Communities across Baringo are being equipped with digital tools that allow citizens to report corruption, police misconduct, and gender-based violence safely and anonymously, following a nationwide awareness initiative held in the county.
The Baringo sensitization forum brought together community leaders, civil society organizations, and government representatives to demonstrate how technology can empower citizens to report injustices occurring in their homes, businesses, and neighborhoods.
Speaking at the forum, Stephen Mosose, a government official with the COO team, said digital platforms help citizens overcome fear and barriers that often prevent them from reporting issues in their communities.
“We use mobile phones and computers to create better conditions for our communities,” Mosose said. “The tool, called Uwajibikaji Pamoja, enables users to send messages and upload photos without revealing their identity through their mobile phones.”
The platform allows users to report incidents witnessed in residential areas, shops, and public spaces while keeping their identity confidential.
Philip Tomno, President of the BAKSOF Association, said the two-day training aimed to equip community members with skills they could share across Baringo and beyond. “Our goal is to learn here and then teach others how to report cases when their concerns are ignored,” Tomno said.
According to organizers, the reporting mechanisms include a mobile application, an online platform, and a free SMS service, ensuring that even citizens without smartphones can participate. Users can send reports anytime to 22310 at no cost and receive feedback on how their cases are being handled.
The tools can be used to report a wide range of incidents, including bribery, corruption, gender-based violence, and police brutality. The initiative is supported by Transparency International (TI) and local community organizations dedicated to improving accountability and law enforcement oversight nationwide.
Organizers urged citizens across Kenya to adopt the digital platforms, emphasizing that public participation is key to creating transparent, just, and secure communities.at?
