CS Murkomen Holds Consultative Meeting with Elgeyo Marakwet Leaders on Security and Development
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday evening held a consultative meeting with leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet County to deliberate on key issues affecting the region, including development, security, and the fight against drugs and illicit alcohol.
Speaking after the meeting, CS Murkomen said the discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between national government agencies and county leadership to enhance service delivery and improve the safety and well-being of residents.
“This evening, I held a consultative meeting with the leaders of Elgeyo Marakwet County on matters of development, security, and the eradication of drugs and illicit alcohol,” Murkomen said.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring law and order and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit brews and drug abuse, noting that such vices undermine public health, security, and economic progress.
Murkomen assured leaders that the Ministry of Interior will continue working closely with local administrators, security agencies, and community leaders to address insecurity and accelerate development initiatives across the county.
He also called for sustained community engagement and intelligence-sharing, saying the fight against drugs and illicit alcohol requires a multi-sectoral approach involving families, religious institutions, and youth groups.
Leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet welcomed the engagement, terming it timely and necessary in addressing the county’s pressing challenges while promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive development.
