GSU Crowned Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Champions After Gritty Comeback

The Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament came to a thrilling close today at Eldoret Polytechnic, with the GSU Men’s Volleyball Team delivering a statement performance to lift the senior men’s title.

In a pulsating final, GSU showcased resilience and championship pedigree, recovering from a first-set loss to a determined Chema VC to secure a convincing 3–1 victory. After a shaky start, GSU settled into their rhythm, combining disciplined defence with sharp attacking play to turn the tide and seal the championship in style.

The team’s dominance was further underlined by an impressive haul of individual accolades. Joshua Kimaru was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, a testament to his all-round excellence throughout the competition. Hudson Kipchumba earned the Best Libero award for his outstanding defensive work, while Brian Melly was recognised as Best Setter, orchestrating GSU’s offence with precision and composure.

The women’s final delivered equal excitement, as the DCI Volleyball Queens went head-to-head with powerhouse Kenya Pipeline. Despite falling short in the final and settling for silver, the Queens left their mark on the tournament with spirited performances and individual brilliance. Mercy Iminza was deservedly crowned Best Opposite Player, while Sarah Namisi claimed the Best Outside Hitter award after a series of eye-catching displays.

The tournament once again highlighted the National Police Service’s growing influence in Kenyan sports, reinforcing its reputation as a breeding ground for elite talent driven by teamwork, discipline, and determination.

As the curtains fall on this year’s Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament, players, fans, and officials alike leave Eldoret celebrating not just trophies and medals, but the competitive spirit and high-quality volleyball that defined the event.
