Eldoret Human Rights Activist Hails Ruto and Trump for Role in DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement

Eldoret-based human rights and democracy advocate Kipkorir Ngetich has applauded President William Ruto of Kenya and U.S. President Donald Trump for what he describes as their “historic and courageous role” in the signing of the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ngetich said the two leaders had “demonstrated that peace is achievable through dialogue, trust, and genuine commitment among key regional and global players.” He noted that the Great Lakes region possesses enormous economic potential that can only be unlocked through “lasting peace and political stability.”

Ngetich praised President Ruto as “one of the most visionary African leaders of this era,” arguing that Ruto has positioned Kenya as a central player in global peace and security efforts. According to him, Kenyans are “deeply proud to have a leader who has elevated the country’s image and responsibility on the world stage.”

He further commended President Trump, stating that the U.S. leader had shown “that global powers can only maintain their influence when they actively promote peace and harmony around the world.” Ngetich emphasized that global peace is essential for both present and future generations, noting that stable societies are better able to invest in health, education, and sustainable development.

Citing Kenya’s leadership of the multinational security mission in Haiti, Ngetich described the deployment of Kenyan security officers as “a bold illustration of Kenya’s unwavering commitment to international peace initiatives.” He argued that such actions reaffirm Kenya’s status as a “global hero in peace-building and humanitarian responsibility.”

Ngetich urged African leaders to rally behind President Ruto’s “bold new chapter for Africa,” calling for unity, regional cooperation, and a rejection of tribalism and divisive politics. He argued that Africa’s challenges stem from “power-hungry individuals and leaders afraid of confronting difficult realities,” and insisted that the continent must now embrace development-driven policies, youth empowerment, justice, education, and global cooperation.

According to Ngetich, these aspirations can only be realized in an environment defined by peace and mutual respect. He added that international cooperation boosts investment and economic growth, making global networking a key pillar for Africa’s transformation.

In his concluding remarks, the activist described President Ruto as “a symbol of hope, courage, and progressive leadership for Africa,” expressing confidence that the president’s leadership style, vision, and diplomatic engagements could usher in a new era for the continent.
