The elephant that trampled to death Eunice Odupoi, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher, near her home in Ilailupa Village, Kajiado West, two days ago has been killed by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers.

Amboseli Conservation Area Chief Park Warden, Mr. Joel Ole Nyika, said the animal was eliminated after a professional assessment deemed it a public threat.

He emphasized that the operation was carried out in line with established wildlife management procedures, with the primary aim of safeguarding human life.

However, leaders from Kajiado County, led by Woman Representative Leah Sankaire, condemned the incident and called on KWS to relocate elephants roaming near human settlements to prevent further human–wildlife conflict.

Sankaire also urged KWS to fast-track compensation for Odupoi’s family, noting that she was the household’s sole breadwinner. Kenya Wildlife Service Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife - Kenya
